Unit 1: Exploring One-Variable Data

This is an introductory unit that helps you understand how you can use data and draw conclusions by interpreting it.

Variation in categorical and quantitative variables, Representing data using tables or graphs, Calculating and interpreting statistics, Describing and comparing distributions of data, The normal distribution

15%–23% of Score

Unit 2: Exploring Two-Variable Data

In this unit, you will describe relations between variables and understand how models are used to make predictions.

Comparing representations of 2 categorical variables, Calculating statistics for 2 categorical variables, Representing bivariate quantitative data using scatter plots, Describing associations in bivariate data, and interpreting correlation, Linear regression models, Residuals, and residual plots, Departures from linearity

5%–7% of Score

Unit 3: Collecting Data

This unit introduces you to the importance of randomization.

Unit 5: Sampling Distributions

In this unit, you will study what is sampling and how the characteristics of a population are determined.

Variation in statistics for samples collected from the same population, The central limit theorem, Biased and unbiased point estimates, Sampling distributions for sample proportions, Sampling distributions for sample means

7%–12% of Score

Unit 6: Inference for Categorical Data: Proportions

In this unit, you will study statistical inference.

Constructing and interpreting a confidence interval for a population proportion, Setting up and carrying out a test for a population proportion, Interpreting a p-value and justifying a claim about a population proportion, Type I and Type II errors in significance testing, Confidence intervals, and tests for the difference of 2 proportions

12%–15% of Score

Unit 7: Inference for Quantitative Data: Means

This unit is based on Unit 6 and teaches you how to analyze quantitative data to make inferences about population means.

Constructing and interpreting a confidence interval for a population mean, Setting up and carrying out a test for a population mean, Interpreting a p-value and justifying a claim about a population mean, Confidence intervals and tests for the difference of 2 population means

Prepare as per the AP Statistics Exam Structure

Students who are preparing for their AP Statistics exam must prepare themselves according to the exam pattern. Our statistics tutors provide complete guidance based on the current AP exam pattern so that students are aware of what kind of questions will be asked in the exam. The duration of the AP stats exam is 3 hours. The exam paper includes two sections:

  1. Multiple choice questions -This section is worth 50% of the exam score. It contains 40 multiple-choice questions that you have to answer in 90 minutes.
  2. Free-response questions - This section includes 5 short-answer questions and 1 investigative task. This section is also worth 50% of the exam score and students are given 90 minutes to solve this section.

Our AP statistics online tutors provide mock tests, sample papers, and previous year's question papers to help students prepare as per the AP statistics exam structure. Students must be trained to solve each question of the multiple choice section in just 2 minutes. The investigative task is quite a challenge that is to be solved in 30 minutes by the students in the exam. Our online math tutors provide complete guidance on how to approach investigative task and solve it correctly in the stipulated time.

How is the AP Statistics Test Graded?

Another important aspect of the AP Statistics exam preparation is that students must understand how they will be graded in the exam. In In the case of multiple choice questions, students are awarded one mark for every correct answer. There is no negative marking in this section.

The free-response section, on the other hand, is of 24 points where each question is given a score from 0 to 4. The AP examiners consider the following for grading the free-response questions:

  • 4 points are awarded to students who showcase a complete understanding of the statistical problem
  • 3 points are awarded to students who make a few arithmetic errors but overall the answer showcases that they have somewhat understood the problem
  • 2 points are awarded to students who include some unreasonable answers due to certain errors and yet are able to showcase their understanding of the problem
  • 1 point is awarded to students who fail to use the correct statistical method and have limited understanding of the problem components
  • O point is awarded to the student who has no or little understanding of the statistical problem

Our tutors will grade you in a similar manner in mock tests and revisions so that you can understand which answer is worth 4 points and how to write such an answer in the exam.
